By GRANT MILLER - Manawatu Standard | Saturday, 24 May 2008

Palmerston North's newest sculpture was pulled from the earth yesterday afternoon, just five-and-a- half hours after being erected by protesters in The Square.

But "Morehu movement" leader Carwyn Kawana vowed there will be another protest next Tuesday and he plans to occupy the city's Anzac Park next Friday. Mr Kawana wants a marae built at Anzac Park to honour his ancestors."We'll be occupying that hill for as long as it takes," he said yesterday. The unauthorised addition to The Square had Palmerston North City Council in a flutter yesterday.Police arrived at the site shortly after digging began, having viewed the scene on CCTV cameras in The Square. There was a pause of about 10 minutes, but council staff allowed the earthworks to continue and police left.
